Biz Buzz The Crawford-Lundberg X-Ray Clinic, 2421 Broadway, will change its name to Lundberg Medical Imaging in early 2013 to reflect changes in practice ownership, according to a company release. Drs. Keith Crawford, Gersh Lundberg and Tony Leskosky will continue providing accredited radiology services in MRI, CT, ultrasound, mammography and general X-ray. “After 45 years of independent radiology practice, we will continue to provide our medical community and their patients with exceptional care and service,” Lundberg said in a release. Kentucky’s unemployment rate in September fell to 8.4 percent from a revised 8.5 percent in August, according to the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. The preliminary September jobless rate was 1.1 percentage points below the 9.5 percent rate recorded for the state in September 2011. The U.S. seasonally adjusted jobless rate fell to 7.8 percent in September from 8.1 percent in August, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. In September 2012, Kentucky’s civilian labor force was 2,073,316, an increase of 4,515 individuals compared to the previous month. A new coffeeshop named Endowment Bay, named after the Fidalgo Bay coffee it will serve, opened Oct. 31 inside Murray-Calloway County Hospital. Proceeds from coffee sales benefit the hospital’s endowment fund for capital construction projects and equipment, according to a hospital statement. “We use this fund to purchase needed equipment for the hospital that may otherwise be on a long waiting list,” said Keith Travis, vice president of institutional development. “As a not-for-profit hospital, MCCH reinvests its money back into itself but there is always a need for new technology.” The shop is just outside the Medical Arts Pharmacy and is open from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday-Friday. Travis recruited several pre-health students from Murray State University to volunteer at the coffee shop and gain more insight into hospital procedures through interacting with hospital staff. Dr. John Cecil cut the ceremonial ribbon at the grand opening of The Cecil Clinic, 5158 Village Square Drive, on Oct. 30. The walk-in clinic with on-site X-ray and laboratory is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Cecil is board certified in pediatrics and has provided medical services in Paducah for more than 30 years, 16 of those with experience in urgent care treatment of children and adults. He also has a special interest in treating Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder and other behavioral and learning conditions. Staff at Dallas Medical Family Practice & Walk-In Clinic on Village Square Drive began seeing patients at their new site Nov. 5. The new 22,000 square-foot building is directly across the street from the previous Dallas Medical location at 4645 Village Square Drive. Strawberry Hills Pharmacy moved its retail pharmacy to the new location, LabCorp provides on-site lab services, and Western Baptist Imaging opened an imaging center, including CT scanning, ultrasound, and X-ray. Two western Kentucky Convention and Visitors Bureaus brought home Traverse Awards from the Kentucky Travel Industry Association’s annual conference in Bowling Green. The Paducah CVB received six Traverse Awards, and the Murray CVB received four. The Paducah CVB received first-place honors for the Paducah Visitors Guide 2012-13, promotional video, rhythm E-newsletter and Paducah billboard. It garnered second-place honors for use of social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) and the Celebrate Quilting rack brochure. The Murray CVB brought in first-place honors for its 2012 Visitor Guide, use of social media, the Quilt Trail rack card and for E-newsletter. According to the KTIA, the Traverse Awards honor travel professionals for their talent, creativity and effectiveness in marketing. A panel of tourism specialists from outside the state judge entries. Each entry is judged on the following criteria: its ability to capture attention, how well it relates to the needs of the audience, instant recognition for the destination, how it sets the destination apart from the competition and how well it sells the destination. Baptist Health, formerly Baptist Healthcare System, announced that Trover Health System in Madisonville joined Baptist as its eighth hospital in the state. On Nov. 1, Trover Health System became Baptist Health Madisonville. Baptist Health, headquartered in Louisville, owns Paducah’s Western Baptist Hospital, and is Kentucky’s largest health care provider by total licensed bed capacity with more than 2,400 licensed beds. Surgeons Dr. James W. Pledger and Dr. Michael L. Bobo announced a full partnership under the practice name, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Their practice has two locations, one in Murray and another in Union City, Tenn. Pledger joined services with Bobo in an associate relationship two years ago. The new partnership ensures a commitment to serve the region’s patients more efficiently, according to a release. The original practice was started by Dr. Michael T. Ridley in the summer of 1978. Pledger earned his dental degree from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 2001. He completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at UT Memphis in 2005. Pledger and Bobo will continue to provide a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures including removal of diseased and impacted teeth, IV anesthesia, dental implants, facial trauma surgery, oral and facial pathology, corrective jaw surgery and cosmetic facial surgery. Computer Services, Inc. of Paducah announced that its board of directors declared a quarterly cash dividend of 14 cents per share plus a one-time special cash dividend of $1 per share. The quarterly cash dividend is payable on Dec. 26, to shareholders of record as of the close of business on Dec. 3. The one-time special dividend of $1 per share is payable Dec. 3, to shareholders of record as of the close of business on Nov. 20. The board also authorized a $5 million increase in the company’s share repurchase program. The $5 million increase in the share repurchase program brings the total to $65 million since CSI’s share repurchase program was initially announced in March 2004. As of Nov. 7, retail gasoline prices in Kentucky averaged $3.35 per gallon, according to kentuckygasprices.com. Average retail gasoline prices in Kentucky fell 2.9 cents per gallon in the previous week. That compared with the national average that had fallen 5.6 cents per gallon in the previous week to $3.51 per gallon.
