Earlie Fugate of Paducah has joined West Kentucky Community & Technical College as coordinator/project director of the Workforce Investment Act youth project. She will work with local businesses and industries to identify placement opportunities for economically disadvantaged youth, monitor various grant programs, assist with recruitment, conduct related workshops, mentor at-risk students and teach courses as assigned.

Lyon County native Jeff R. McDaniels was recently named president of Farmers Bank and Trust Co. in Princeton. He succeeds John H. Carner, who retired but continues to serve as Farmers chairman/chief executive officer. McDaniels joined the bank in 2007 as executive vice president and was elected to the board of directors in December.
Dr. Chris King, a neurologist, has joined the medical staff of Murray-Calloway County Hospital. Triangle Enterprises has promoted Jack Brockman to vice president of field operations and Kent Buchanan to vice president of estimating and support services. Brockman joined Triangle in 1979. Buchanan joined Triangle in 1983 as an estimator/engineer and most recently served as senior estimator.

Swift & Staley Mechanical Contractors is the U.S. Department of Energy’s Small Business HUBZone Contractor of the Year because of its safe, cost-efficient work at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant. Patricia and Bill Holsapple own the Paducah firm, whose work ranges from roads and grounds maintenance to records management. DOE said Swift & Staley documented cost savings of about $350,000 in fiscal 2007 and $528,300 over the life of its contract. The firm also worked with West Kentucky Community & Technical College to arrange leadership, advisory and skills training for employees, and saved the government about $23,000 by securing a state grant to pay for 75 percent of the costs. Swift & Staley and the college also are developing an industrial maintenance curriculum to provide workers the high skills needed once the plant is decommissioned in 10 to 20 years.

Air Evac Lifeteam, operated by Air Evac EMS Inc. of West Plains, Mo., with a base in Marion, Ill., has become the world’s largest medical transport program under one name to receive accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services. All 69 Air Evac Lifeteam bases open prior to May 2008 are accredited and three recently opened bases are scheduled for review. The accreditation process focused on patient care, safety standards, quality improvement activities, education, equipment, staffing, communications, maintenance and administration.

Martha Lou Steinbeck, office services manager for Vulcan Construction Materials’ Grand Rivers Quarry, is the Paducah-Kentucky Lake Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals’ Boss of the Year for 2008-2009. Steinbeck was nominated by her administrative assistant, Gloria Stewart, and chosen by an independent panel of three judges. Steinbeck was deemed an avid supporter by encouraging her assistant’s participation in the 40,000-member organization.
Former Murray resident Robert Weatherly has been promoted to director of sports performance at Velocity in Memphis, Tenn. Weatherly joined Velocity in 2004. He previously served as exercise specialist at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital Center for Health and Wellness and as assistant strength coach at Murray State University.

Former Paducah resident James E. “Jay” Dortch of Louisville was named to the CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation’s board of trustees recently in Washington, D.C. Dortch is majority owner/managing partner of Financial Strategies Group in Louisville and serves on Kosair Children’s Hospital’s family advisory council and leadership cabinet.
