Ronnie Kineman, a member of USEC’s cylinder handling crew, moves one of the first Department of Energy-owned depleted uranium “tails” cylinders into a staging area at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant. This is one of about 1,100 tails cylinders that will be re-enriched in Paducah as part of the new contract extending operations for a year. On June 1, members of the United States Enrichment Corporation’s cylinder/material handling group moved the first of the depleted uranium cylinders, or “tails,” that will be reenriched.
